It’s respiratory care week!
So we thought we’d take a minute to chat about a few of the common lung issues we often see in our facilities. As a free standing ER, we are fully equipped to handle your respiratory issues, just like any hospital emergency room, and our wait times average 20 minutes or less. When it comes to breathing issues, time is of the essence—time that shouldn’t be spent in an overcrowded waiting room.
Asthma
More than 26 million Americans have asthma, including 6.1 million children. It’s the 3rd leading cause of hospitalization among children! While there’s not yet a cure, it can be managed and treated with the right steps. Still, exposure or exertion can trigger an attack that makes breathing difficult. Don’t waste time waiting in a hospital emergency department. Come see us at Texas Emergency Care and let us help you start to breathe easy again.
Pneumonia
Anyone can get it, and there are more than 30 different causes, so how can you know if your cold or cough has actually become pneumonia? Symptoms include chest pains, loss of appetite and fever, but an X-Ray can confirm a pneumonia diagnosis. If your illness lingers longer than you think it should, it’s worth having a doctor check your lungs. Pneumonia can be very serious!
RSV
If you’re a parent, chances are you have stood over your newborn baby watching them breathe. Is she getting enough oxygen? Is his blanket too close to his face? When a virus like RSV hits, the anxiety only gets worse. RSV is a common virus in young children, but can cause more severe infections in some, prompting the need for further medical care. If your child is having trouble breathing or is dehydrated, a healthcare provider can help determine if a little extra care is needed until the virus passes.
Covid-19
Of course we have to mention the “C” word we’re all a little tired of hearing these days. But the truth is, Covid-19 presents with some significant respiratory symptoms. If you are experiencing the common coronavirus symptoms like shortness of breath, and you have been exposed to someone with Covid-19, visit one of our facilities for a test to confirm.
